Ian McKellen is a British actor. He was born on 25 May 1939 in Burnley, Lancashire, England.

He made his television debut as Plowden in The Indian Tales of Rudyard Kipling (1964) and went on to appear and star in many television and film projects throughout his career. He is best known for his roles as the titular character in Richard III (1995), Eric Lensherr/Magneto in the following films; X-Men (2000), X-Men 2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), The Wolverine (2013) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings (2001-03) and The Hobbit (2012-14) trilogies. He is also renowned for his theatre work and is a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Some of his other acting work includes:-
