John Francome is a British retired horse jockey, television presenter and author. He was born on 13 December 1952 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.
At the age of sixteen, he worked as an apprentice for Fred Winter, a racehorse jockey and trainer. This sparked off his venture into the horse racing business, where he would become Champion Jockey seven times, be the third most successful National Hunt jump jockey in history and ride 1,138 winning horses. Once he retired, he moved onto training for just over a year before turning to television presenting for Channel 4 until 2012. He has also published a number of fiction novels.
